How is LensRenew different than other abraisive
/ clear-coat systems on the internet?
LensRenew is very different than
the other abrasive/clear coat systems on the internet.
Lensrenew is a plastic headlight lens polishing
system. There are no clear-coats with lensRenew. LensRenew
is a repair system. Think of a clear-coat or "final
coat" lens
"repair" system as a quick and temporary fix. With an abrasive/clear
coat system the lens face is removed with an abrasive then the lens
is clear coated. The clear coat operates the same way water "clears" crushed
white ice. Think of crushed white ice in a clear glass then add water.
Got a visual? The water melts the jagged edges on the ice and instantly
you can see through the ice! Why? The jagged ice edges are melted by
the water and the light no longer refracts and reflects, it goes straight
through. The same principle applies to a clear coat. Once the damaged
lens face is removed with an abrasive the lens face is opaque from
the sanding process. The lens has sanding swirls. However, once you
spray or wipe on a clear coat, the jagged sanding swirls dissapear
as the clear coats adheres to the jagged swirls and wah la, the lens
is clear. That is until the clear coat comes off or yellows, and, it
will, in about six months. Your problem is then two fold. You must
them remove the clear coat which is no easy task, and then, polish
the lens back to clear with a product like, you guessed it, Lensrenew.
LensRenew is a polishing system, your lenses are basically new again
and not simply masked.
Do I need to remove my headlight
lenses before I begin the headlight restoration and cleaner
process ?
No, LensRenew was designed
to avoid that step. On some vehicles removing the Lenses
are a time-consuming process. The sanding backing pad
at 3" in diameter, is small and flexible enough
to reach all of the lens on the vast majority of headlight
lens, while still installed. As a precaution, some customers
have taped off the painted surface around the lens in
case the painted surface comes in contact with the sanding
disc. If your vehicle’s headlights are positioned
such that the disc will possibly come in contact with
paint, masking only takes a couple minutes. If the disc
does come into contact with a painted surface, the grit
is so fine the damage would be limited to just the removal
of the clear coat, and that would occur only if the disc
made contact for several seconds.
Can I destroy my lenses if I make
a mistake with LensRenew ?
Yes, but for only about ten minutes! If,
when you complete the process your lenses are more opaque
than when you started, simply start the process over.
You have either sanded too much or not enough. LensRenew
works by actually creating scratches via sanding (this
step removes the opaque, crazed or yellow plastic) and
then removing the scratches with finer and finer abrasives.
So, if your Lenses are still opaque, you probably did
not sand the opaque plastic off initially, or, you did
you did not remove the scratches you created when using
the finer grit abrasive. Following the instructions
will almost always lead to like new lenses, but if not,
simply start over.
How much mechanical aptitude do
I need?
Not much. If you can handle
an electric drill, you are good to go.
How many cars will the retail kit complete?
In nearly all cases, two cars or four headlights. It will of course
do one car and two if the lenses do not look like cataracts.
How long will LensRenew work on my lenses, how
long will it last?
As Long as it took your lenses
to turn opaque in the first place. The lens face becomes
virgin plastic as when new.
How much do new lenses cost?
Great question! Here are
some examples. NOTE: Prices are for one side only !
Double the amount shown for both headlights.... Wow
